Open 2007 - In association with RBS

Hole by Hole Guide - 9th

Carnoustie 9th

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Railway
Par: 4
Championship Tee: 478 yards
Medal Tee: 413 yards

Colin Says: This was the hardest hole in 1999. If they opt for a driver it's a very narrow gap between the bunkers left and right. I expect they'll fire it at the bunker on the left and try to hit it about 280 yards. That'll leave about 180-190 yards in. The
left-to-right wind is disguised by the
trees. The most difficult pin position will be in the middle on the left, bringing the impinging bunker into play.

Fergus Says: The 9th is very difficult. Your tee-shot must be long and accurate and so must the approach. It's another very long green, three or four clubs front to back – so pay close to attention to where the flag is.
