Open 2007 - In association with RBS

Hole by Hole Guide - 5th

Carnoustie 5th

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Brae
Par: 4
Championship Tee: 415 yards
Medal Tee: 387 yards

Colin Says: The difficulty of the 5th is really determined by the pin position. The green is 57 yards long and when the flag is right at the back a 4 is a good score. When it's at the front, however, a birdie 3 is a distinct possibility. The pros probably won't use driver here – perhaps a 2-iron or 3-iron, leaving themselves 160 yards into the green.

Fergus Says: A left-to-right dogleg, the bunker on the left of the fairway is easily reachable. You either have to play short of it or fade it past the right edge. Jockie's Burn crosses the fairway at 300 yards so driver off the tee isn't the smartest play for the longest hitters.
