Open 2007 - In association with RBS

Hole by Hole Guide - 3rd

Carnoustie 3rd

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Jockie's Burn
Par: 4
Championship Tee: 358 yards
Medal Tee: 337 yards

Colin Says: This hole has been tweaked a little with the addition of bunkers and grassy mounds on the fairway. It's an iron off the tee down to the corner of the dogleg or maybe short of the right-hand bunkers, depending on the pin position. If it's back left it's less accessible from the left-hand side. If they can get it on the fairway they'll give themselves a chance for a 3.

Fergus Says: There's nothing to be gained from hitting driver here. Just lay up towards the corner of the dogleg and it's a short iron in. The green has tricky run-offs on every side so the safe shot is to the heart of the putting surface.

Paul Says: This hole is much more difficult than in 1999. You used to be able to play it down with a driver to just short of the burn and then it was just a flick on. You can no longer do that. It's going to be something like a 5-iron just short of the bunkers then perhaps an 8-iron or 9-iron to the green.
