Open 2007 - In association with RBS

Hole by Hole Guide - 16th

carnoustie 16th

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Barry Burn
Par: 3
Championship Tee: 248 yards
Medal Tee: 245 yards

Colin Says: This requires a good blow but it's not that difficult for the top players. Downwind they'll be going with something like a 4-iron. They'll err on the left side as getting up and down from there is far simpler than if they miss to the right. The green is fairly easy to read. I can't see this one causing too many problems.

Fergus Says: It's time to reach for the kitchen sink as you'll need to throw everything at it to reach this green. Don't miss on the right side as it's a very difficult up and down even if you avoid the treacherous bunkers. Left is fine as there is a large run-off area.

Paul Says: From the Championship tees this can be as much as a driver when the wind is against. I've certainly hit driver here in the Dunhill, though I've always been able to reach. The year Tom Watson won the Open here he didn't make a par at this hole.
