Hole by Hole Guide - 15th

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Lucky Slap
Par: 4
Championship Tee: 472 yards
Medal Tee: 459 yards

Colin Says: A great hole where the tee-shot is crucial. They probably won't hit driver, just a rescue club or long iron and they'll try to draw it into a fairway that slopes from left to right. They'll be coming into the green with about a 5-iron or 6-iron and will have to land it short of the putting surface. It's the hardest green to read on the course so you have to work hard from tee to cup to earn your par.

Fergus Says: Take a deep breath and compose yourself for the run-in. Aim at the fir tree in the distance with just a touch of draw. Make sure you've got enough club to clear the bunkers short of the green. Beware of the last trap on the right as everything slopes towards it.

Paul Says: Most people will look to hit driver or 3-wood to get as close as possible to the green. Aim for the tree on the horizon and try to shape it right to left. Be careful not to overdo it or you'll find the gorse. Depending on the wind it may be possible to take a long iron but then you'll be left with a long shot in.
