Open 2007 - In association with RBS

Hole by Hole Guide - 12th

Carnoustie 12th

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Southward Ho
Par: 4
Championship Tee: 499 yards
Medal Tee: 479 yards

Colin Says: An extremely long par 4 that really requires a driver from the tee. The problem is the landing area between the bunkers on the right and the rough on the left is very narrow. Some may choose to play short of the bunkers but that will probably leave a wood in. It demands two high-quality shots – miss the fairway and you are forced to play it as a par 5.

Fergus Says: The members play this as a par 5 from the medal tees and this is probably the best way for amateurs to tackle it. Finding the fairway off the tee is vital as gorse, burns and bunkers wait for anything straying off line. The green is wide but shallow so it's difficult to hit it with a longer club.
